Mailerlite vs Systeme.io
I need to tell you something I’m genuinely embarrassed about. Years ago, I discovered Systeme.io when they first launched. I used it on multiple projects, loved every second of it, and joined their affiliate program. Their offer was and still is one of the best in the industry: 50% recurring commission. Lifetime recurring. As long as your referral stays a customer, you earn month after month.
I thought, “I should promote this. Then I procrastinated. Not for a week. Not for a month. For YEARS.
While I was procrastinating, other affiliates were promoting Systeme.io consistently. Month after month. Year after year. They were building recurring income streams — the kind that grow even while you sleep.
Let’s do the math on what I missed:
- 50 referrals (totally achievable with consistent promotion over 3 years)
- 20 upgrade to the $27/month Startup plan (realistic 40% conversion)
- 50% commission = $13.50 per person per month
- 20 × $13.50 = $270/MONTH in recurring income
- Over 3 years = $9,720 in passive income I left on the table
That’s conservative. Some Systeme.io affiliates make $1,000 to $5,000+ per month.
That’s income I will never get back. Because I procrastinated.
Now I’m using Systeme.io for The Income Plug and finally promoting it. But I’m years late. Please don’t make my mistake. Now I’m comparing MailerLite vs. Systeme.io
This isn’t a comparison of ConvertKit vs. MailerLite (premium tools starting at $25–$29/month). This is a FREE PLAN SHOWDOWN for broke beginner bloggers who need maximum value for $0. (If you’re brand new and haven’t launched your blog yet, start with my complete guide to starting a blog in 2026 first, then come back here to pick your email platform.)
Here’s what each free plan offers at a glance:
Mailerlite FREE: 500 contacts, 12,000 sends/month, beautiful templates, email only.
Systeme.io FREE: 2,000 contacts, UNLIMITED sends, sales funnels + course hosting + email all-in-one.
I’ve used Systeme.io for years. I researched MailerLite extensively, but never used it personally. Here’s my honest, no-BS comparison and why I wish I’d promoted Systeme.io sooner.
Here’s what you’ll learn in this post:
- My years of Systeme.io experience (real usage, multiple projects!)
- What Systeme.io’s free plan actually includes is shockingly generous
- What Mailerlite’s free plan offers is beautiful, but more limited
- A head-to-head FREE PLAN SHOWDOWN with a full comparison table
- Why I regret not promoting Systeme.io years ago (affiliate lesson you need to hear!)
- Exactly which platform is right for YOUR situation as a broke beginner
Let’s dive in.
AFFILIATE DISCLOSURE: I use Systeme.io for The Income Plug and promote it as an affiliate (50% recurring commission). I have used Systeme.io for YEARS across multiple projects and genuinely trust it. I have NOT used MailerLite personally, but have researched it extensively, including their current features and pricing. This comparison is based on real Systeme.io experience plus thorough, up-to-date Mailerlite research. Both platforms are excellent. Your choice should depend on your needs, not pressure from me.
My Systeme.io Story: Years of Use + My $10,000 Affiliate Regret
How I Discovered Systeme.io
Years ago, I was searching for an email marketing platform. MailChimp had just slashed their free plan from 2,000 contacts down to a measly 500, and even at that limited tier, costs were climbing. I went searching for alternatives.
I typed “MailChimp alternatives” into Google, and Systeme.io appeared. It was a relatively new platform at the time, freshly launched, and I was skeptical. The offer seemed too good to be true:
- FREE plan: 2,000 contacts with UNLIMITED email sends
- All-in-one: Email marketing + sales funnels + course hosting
- Affiliate program: 50% recurring commission, lifetime
I thought, “There has to be a catch.” So I tried it.
There was no catch. It worked exactly as advertised. It was real.
Years of Real Use Across Multiple Projects
Before The Income Plug ever existed, I used Systeme.io on multiple projects:
Project 1: Lead Magnet Funnels
- Set up complete email sequences from scratch
- Created opt-in funnels to collect leads
- Built automated welcome series for new subscribers
- Everything worked smoothly no technical headaches
Project 2: Mini Course Testing
- Hosted a mini course entirely inside Systeme.io
- Delivered lessons via email automation on a drip schedule
- Managed student progress and completions
- Used the built-in affiliate program to let others promote it
Throughout those years:
- Never hit the 2,000 contact limit on the free plan
- Never stressed about email send limits, because there are none
- Never once needed to upgrade just to run my business
- The free plan was genuinely, completely sufficient
Now, with The Income Plug, I am using Systeme.io again for email marketing, growing my subscriber list, and planning future sales funnels and courses. It’s my current daily tool.
That’s years of real use. Multiple projects. Current active use. Not a theory. Not a paid review. Real experience. (Want the full breakdown? I wrote an in-depth Systeme.io review covering every feature I’ve tested across all those years.)
The Massive Mistake I Made (My Affiliate Regret Story)
This is the part that still bothers me when I think about it.
I joined Systeme.io’s affiliate program years ago. Their program gives you 50% recurring commission — that means every month a person you referred pays their subscription, you earn 50% of it. Forever. It’s legitimately one of the best affiliate programs I’ve ever seen in the online marketing space.
I thought: “I should promote this.”
Then I made excuses:
- “I’ll promote it later when my blog has more traffic…”
- “I need to set up the perfect review post first…”
- “I’ll wait until I have a bigger audience…”
- “Let me get my email funnel sorted first…”
Excuses. Every single one.
While I was making excuses, other affiliates were being consistent. They were promoting Systeme.io in their blog posts, their YouTube videos, their email lists. Month after month. Building referral stacks that paid them again and again.
I made $0 from Systeme.io affiliate during those years. Zero. Despite having joined the program, I tested the platform and genuinely loved it. (I’ve since written a full post on using email marketing for affiliate marketing, because doing it right is exactly what I failed to do for years.)
Let me show you exactly what that procrastination cost me:
Conservative estimate (3 years of consistent promotion):
- 50 referrals total — completely achievable with one good post per month
- 40% upgrade rate — 20 people on the $27/month Startup plan
- 50% commission = $13.50 per person per month
- 20 × $13.50 = $270/MONTH in recurring passive income
- Over 3 years = $9,720 in income I will never recover
That’s the conservative scenario. Top Systeme.io affiliates, the ones who were consistent while I procrastinated, report earning $1,000 to $5,000+ per month from this single affiliate program.
I cost myself $10,000 or more by procrastinating. That’s not a hypothetical. That’s income I walked away from by doing nothing.
Why I’m Sharing This Embarrassing Story
Because you might be about to make the same mistake.
The pattern is painfully common:
- Find a great tool
- Join the affiliate program
- Think, “I should promote this someday.”
- Procrastinate
- Years pass
- Miss thousands in recurring income
If you find a tool you genuinely use and love, Systeme.io or anything else, promote it CONSISTENTLY. The recurring commission compounds over time. The sooner you start, the more you make. I am living proof of what happens when you don’t.
Now I’m using Systeme.io for TheIncomePlug and finally promoting it. But I am years late. Don’t repeat my mistake.
Systeme.io Free Plan: What You Actually Get (I've Used It for Years!)
I’ve researched every major email platform. I’ve tried many. And Systeme.io’s free plan is, without question, the most generous all-in-one free plan I’ve found. (I ranked it alongside ConvertKit, ActiveCampaign, and others in my roundup of the best email marketing platforms for bloggers if you want the bigger picture.) Here’s everything it includes:
1. Email Marketing: 2,000 Contacts + UNLIMITED Sends 🏆
Let me put this in perspective:
Platform | Free Contacts | Free Sends |
|---|---|---|
| Systeme.io | 2,000 | Unlimited |
| Mailerlite | 1,000 | 12,000/month |
| Mailchimp | 500 | 500/month |
Systeme.io gives you double the contacts of MailerLite and no sending cap whatsoever. If your list has 2,000 subscribers and you send them a daily email, that’s 60,000 sends a month. All free. Mailerlite would hit its 12,000 cap in less than a week at that pace.
From my experience: I’ve never felt limited by the free plan’s contact ceiling. The 2,000 threshold gives you plenty of room to grow before you ever need to upgrade. And the unlimited sends mean I can email my list as often as I need to — weekly newsletters, welcome sequences, promotional campaigns — without watching a counter tick up.
Free features included in email marketing:
- Email campaigns (broadcast sends to your full list)
- Email sequences (automated series triggered by sign-up or action)
- Automation rules (tag-based sending and branching logic)
- A/B testing (split test subject lines to optimise open rates)
- Tags and segments (organise subscribers by interest or behaviour)
2. Sales Funnels: 3 Complete Funnels Included FREE 🏆
This is what genuinely separates Systeme.io from every email-only platform on the market.
A sales funnel is a connected sequence of pages designed to move a visitor from stranger to subscriber to buyer: Landing page → Email opt-in → Thank you page → Email sequence → Sales page. It’s the backbone of how online businesses convert traffic into income.
Mailerlite doesn’t have this feature. To build funnels with MailerLite, you’d need ClickFunnels ($127/month) or a similar tool.
Systeme.io includes 3 complete sales funnels. Free. Always.
I’ve personally used Systeme.io funnels for lead magnet opt-ins, email sequence triggers, and planning future product launches. They work exactly as you’d expect.
Savings by using Systeme.io instead of ClickFunnels: $127/month, that’s $1,524/year.
3. Course Hosting: 1 Full Course FREE 🏆
Systeme.io lets you build, host, and deliver an entire online course at zero cost. Compare that to what you’d normally pay:
Platform
- Teachable
- Thinkific
- Kajabi
- Systeme.io
Cost
- $39–$119/month
- $49–$99/month
- $149–$399/month
- $0 for your first course
I tested course hosting on Systeme.io on one of my earlier projects. I uploaded videos, built modules, set up drip scheduling, enrolled test students, and tracked completions. Everything worked. No glitches, no hidden fees, no surprises.
I’m not creating a course for The Income Plug yet; I’m focused on building the blog first. But when that time comes, the infrastructure is already there. Already included. Already free.
4. Landing Pages: Unlimited 🏆
Create as many landing pages as you need:
- Opt-in pages (grow your email list with a lead magnet)
- Sales pages (sell your digital products)
- Thank you pages (confirm opt-ins, deliver freebies)
- Coming soon pages (build anticipation before launch)
5. Built-in Affiliate Program Management 🏆
If you sell products, Systeme.io’s free plan lets you run your own affiliate program, recruit affiliates, track their sales, manage links, and pay commissions all from within the platform. Standalone affiliate management tools typically cost $50–$200 per month.
6. Unlimited File Storage 🏆
Upload PDFs, guides, course materials, digital products, and email attachments with no storage limits.
Honest Limitations of Systeme.io’s Free Plan
I said no BS, so here are the genuine drawbacks:
Fewer email templates ⚠️ Systeme.io’s templates are functional; they send your message cleanly and professionally. But they are not beautiful. Mailerlite has over 100 polished, modern templates. Systeme.io has significantly fewer, and they lean toward plain and practical.
Steeper learning curve ⚠️ Because Systeme.io does so much, there’s more to learn. When I first used it, getting fully comfortable took a few hours. Mailerlite, being email-only, is simpler by comparison. Once you learn Systeme.io, daily use becomes easy, but day one can feel a bit overwhelming.
Smaller user community ⚠️ MailerLite has been around longer and boasts 1.5 million+ users. Systeme.io is newer with a smaller community, meaning fewer third-party tutorials and smaller Facebook groups.
Bottom line on Systeme.io free: You’re trading design polish for extraordinary feature depth. For broke beginners who want maximum capability at $0, that’s a trade I’d make every single time.
Mailerlite Free Plan: What My Research Shows
I want to be upfront again: I have not used Mailerlite personally. I’ve researched it extensively, including their current features, the 2025 pricing changes, and real user feedback, and I wrote a ConvertKit vs Mailerlite comparison that required going deep into both platforms. But you deserve to know the difference between experience and research.
With that said, having looked at MailerLite’s current feature set carefully, this is a more capable platform than most comparison posts give it credit for. Let me give it the fair assessment it deserves.
Updated Free Plan: 500 Subscribers, 12,000 Sends/Month
Updated figure: Mailerlite reduced their free plan from 1,000 to 500 subscribers in late 2025. Most articles online still show the old number.
That’s a meaningful reduction in the contact limit. But the feature set that comes with the free plan has also expanded, and this update is where MailerLite surprises people.
What Mailerlite Free Actually Includes
Email marketing essentials:
- Email campaigns and automation
- The AI-powered drag-and-drop editor is genuinely easy to use and better than most competitors
- 1 website and blog
- Up to 10 landing pages
- Forms and pop-ups
Beyond email, what most posts miss:
Looking at Mailerlite’s current features page, the platform now includes capabilities that go well beyond basic email marketing:
- Digital products — sell e-books, downloads, and digital files directly through Mailerlite without needing a separate tool
- Paid newsletter subscriptions — charge your subscribers recurring fees for premium content, built natively into the platform
- E-commerce integration — connect your online store and use email to drive sales
- Appointment booking (new feature) — schedule free or paid 1:1 and group calls directly through Mailerlite
- Email verifier — clean and validate your list for better deliverability
This matters because it changes the picture significantly. Mailerlite is no longer a purely email-focused tool. It’s growing into a broader platform, just with different strengths than Systeme.io, not lesser ones.
24/7 support on the free plan: This is genuinely rare. Most platforms limit live support to paid customers. Mailerlite gives free users 24/7 email and live chat support, which is a real advantage for beginners figuring things out.
Free Plan Showdown: Systeme.io vs Mailerlite (Which Wins for $0?)
What this table actually tells us:
Systeme.io wins on volume and growth infrastructure: more contacts, unlimited sends, full funnels, course hosting, affiliate management, and unlimited landing pages.
MailerLite wins on experience and certain monetization features, better design, AI editor, easier interface, paid newsletters, digital products, appointment booking, and 24/7 support.
These are genuinely different strengths for genuinely different needs. Neither is a clear overall winner for every person.
The Financial Reality for $0-Budget Beginners
If you want email + funnels + course hosting:
Approach
- Mailerlite FREE + ClickFunnels + Teachable
- Systeme.io FREE (all-in-one)
Monthly Cost
- $166+/month
- $0/month
For this use case, Systeme.io saves you significant money.
If you only want email + digital product sales:
Both platforms handle this on their free plans. Mailerlite’s digital product and paid newsletter features are built in and simple. Systeme.io handles product sales through its funnel and checkout system. Neither requires a paid plan to start.
Pricing: When You're Ready to Upgrade
Neither platform is designed to keep you on the free plan forever, and that’s actually a good thing. Start free, build real momentum, and upgrade when your growth demands it.
Plan
- FREE
- Entry Paid
- Advanced
- Top Tier
Systeme.io
- 2,000 contacts / Unlimited sends
- $27/month (5K contacts, unlimited)
- $47/month (10K + webinars)
- $97/month (UNLIMITED everything)
Mailerlite
- 500 contacts / 12,000 sends/mo
- $10/month (1K contacts, unlimited)
- $21/month (advanced features)
- Custom pricing
When you’ll likely upgrade on Systeme.io: Your list hits 2,000 contacts, or you need more than 3 funnels, or you want to launch a second course. At $27/month, you get 5,000 contacts and unlimited funnels and courses. By that point, your blog should be generating more than $27/month.
When you’ll likely upgrade on Mailerlite: Your list hits 500 subscribers — which for an actively growing blogger can happen relatively quickly. At $10/month you remove the contact cap and get unlimited sends. It’s a small and affordable next step.
Start free. Build real momentum. Let the upgrade happen when your growth demands it not before.
Who Should Choose Systeme.io vs Mailerlite?
Choose Systeme.io FREE If…
✅ You’re on a $0 budget and want maximum features — 2,000 contacts, unlimited sends, funnels, courses. Nothing else at this price tier comes close.
✅ You want an all-in-one platform — Email, funnels, course hosting, and affiliate management under one roof saves you $166+/month versus separate tools.
✅ You plan to create courses someday — Even if that’s months away, having course hosting built into your platform is future-proofing for free. Don’t pay Teachable $39/month when Systeme.io includes it.
✅ You’ll build sales funnels — 3 funnels free is $127/month in ClickFunnels savings. If you ever want to launch a product, collect leads with a proper funnel, or run an evergreen campaign — you need funnels.
✅ You’ll sell products and want affiliates — Systeme.io’s built-in affiliate management means you can recruit affiliates to promote your products without a separate platform.
✅ You want the best affiliate programme — 50% recurring commission is the best in the industry. Just don’t procrastinate like I did.
Choose Mailerlite FREE If…
✅ You want the easiest possible starting experience — Mailerlite’s interface and AI-powered editor are genuinely intuitive from day one. If you want to send your first email campaign with minimal frustration, Mailerlite is the gentler start.
✅ Beautiful email design matters to your brand — Mailerlite’s templates are professionally designed and visually polished in a way Systeme.io’s simply aren’t. If how your emails look is important to you, Mailerlite delivers.
✅ You want to sell digital products or run a paid newsletter — These features are built natively into Mailerlite. If your monetisation plan centres on e-books, downloads, or a premium newsletter, Mailerlite handles it cleanly without extra tools.
✅ You want 24/7 support while learning — Having live chat available at any hour is genuinely reassuring when you’re new. Mailerlite provides this even on the free plan.
✅ You only need an email for now, and want to keep it simple — Not everyone needs funnels, courses, and affiliate systems from day one. If your goal is simply to build an email list and communicate with your readers, Mailerlite does that beautifully and without overwhelm.
Still Unsure? Ask Yourself These Questions
1. Do you plan to build funnels or host courses in the next 12 months?
- YES → Systeme.io (already included, no future migration needed)
- NO, just newsletters for now → Mailerlite works well for this
2. How important is design quality to your brand?
- Very important → Mailerlite (superior templates and AI editor)
- Functional is fine → Systeme.io (emails work great, just not as polished)
3. How quickly do you expect your list to grow?
- Fast (100+ subscribers/month) → Systeme.io (the 500-subscriber Mailerlite cap will frustrate you quickly)
- Slowly at first → Either works, but Systeme.io gives more runway
4. Is selling digital products or paid newsletters your main monetisation plan?
- YES → Either platform works, but Mailerlite’s native tools make it simpler for this specific use case
- NO, I’m building toward courses and product funnels → Systeme.io
Once you’ve made your choice, read my guide on how to build an email list as a beginner blogger. It covers getting from zero to your first 1,000 subscribers on either platform.
The Truth Most Comparison Posts Won't Tell You
Not every blogger needs funnels.
Not every blogger needs course hosting or affiliate management.
Some people genuinely just want to send a weekly newsletter, grow slowly, and build a relationship with their readers. For that, Mailerlite is a beautiful, simple, well-supported tool with expanding capabilities that does the job without the complexity.
Some people want to build a full online business with products, courses, funnels, and multiple income streams from the start. For that, Systeme.io is the more powerful and cost-efficient foundation.
The platform you choose matters far less than what you do with it after you choose.
Your success won’t come from Systeme.io. It won’t come from Mailerlite. It will come from consistency, content, and building genuine relationships with your audience. Blogging is still absolutely worth it in 2026, and email is the reason why. But no platform builds that list for you. You do.
Please choose the option that best suits your current needs. Start. Stay consistent.
My Affiliate Regret Lesson: Don't Procrastinate Like I Did
I’ve already told you the story. Let me now give you the actionable lesson so you don’t repeat my mistake.
I’ve used Systeme.io for years. I love it. I joined their affiliate programme years ago. And I promoted nothing for years.
The recurring income I missed is probably $10,000 or more over 3 to 4 years. It’s gone. That’s not recoverable. It existed only in the potential I chose not to act on.
Why did I procrastinate? Here’s my honest list:
- “I’ll promote it later when my blog gets more traffic.”
- “I need to build the perfect system before I start.”
- “My audience isn’t big enough yet.”
- “I should write a proper review post first.”
- “I’ll do it after I’ve grown my email list.”
None of these were real reasons. They were all fear dressed up as preparation.
The recurring commission on Systeme.io compounds over time. Every month you delay starting is a month of income you permanently lose. There is no “catch up” with recurring commissions — you just miss months.
Here’s what I should have done — and what YOU should do:
- Use the tool consistently (build genuine experience)
- Join the affiliate programme as soon as you’ve verified it works for you
- Promote it IMMEDIATELY — not when conditions are perfect
- Be consistent every month — recurring income is built through persistence, not intensity
Systeme.io’s affiliate programme specifically:
- 50% recurring commission — every month a referral pays, you earn half
- Lifetime recurring — as long as they remain a customer
- Free plan converts to paid — you earn when your referral upgrades, even years later
- The free plan promotes itself — when you send people to a genuinely generous free offer, conversion is easier
I’m promoting it now. I’m building that recurring income now. But I am years behind where I should be.
Learn from my mistake. Don’t wait for the perfect moment. The perfect moment is now.
FAQs: Mailerlite vs Systeme.io Free Plans
Q1: Is Mailerlite still free in 2026?
Yes, but the free plan changed. As of late 2025, Mailerlite’s free plan gives you 500 subscribers and 12,000 emails/month. Most articles online still show the old 1,000-subscriber figure, so be careful with outdated sources. The free plan also now includes digital product sales and paid newsletter features, which add genuine value even at the reduced contact limit.
Q2: Why did Mailerlite reduce their free plan from 1,000 to 500 subscribers?
Mailerlite updated their pricing structure in late 2025. The exact reasoning wasn’t publicly detailed, but it aligns with a broader trend of platforms tightening their free tiers as their paid features expand. The trade-off is that the platform has added meaningful new tools, digital products, paid subscriptions, and appointment booking, which increases the value of the paid plans and shifts the free tier toward genuine starters rather than long-term free users.
Q3: Is Systeme.io’s free plan genuinely free with no tricks?
Yes. I’ve used it for years across multiple projects and have never encountered hidden limits, forced upgrades, or unexpected charges. The free plan genuinely includes 2,000 contacts, unlimited sends, 3 funnels, 1 course, unlimited landing pages, and affiliate management at $0. You upgrade when you outgrow it; that’s the only prompt.
Q4: Can I sell digital products on both platforms for free?
Yes. Systeme.io handles digital product sales through its funnel and checkout system. MailerLite has a dedicated native digital products feature and also supports paid newsletter subscriptions. Neither requires a paid plan to start selling. Both have limitations on the free tier, but both are functional for making your first sales.
Q5: Which platform is easier to use?
MailerLite, clearly, especially on day one. The interface is clean, the AI-powered drag-and-drop editor is smooth, and the learning curve is minimal. For someone who is not tech-comfortable, Mailerlite is the most approachable starting point.
Systeme.io requires more time to get comfortable with because it does more. I spent a few hours exploring when I first started. Once learned, daily use is easy, but the initial experience takes more patience. If you want to send your first email with minimal friction, Mailerlite wins.
Q6: Which is better long-term for a blogger who wants to monetize?
It depends on how you plan to monetize. If your path is courses, funnels, and an integrated product system, Systeme.io scales better and keeps everything in one place. If your path is paid newsletters, digital downloads, or a membership-style email, Mailerlite now handles this natively and does it simply. Neither answer is wrong; they serve different monetization models well.
Q7: Does Systeme.io integrate with WordPress?
Yes, and it’s straightforward. My Income Plug setup uses WordPress for the blog and Systeme.io for email. I embed Systeme.io opt-in forms into blog posts, deliver lead magnets through Systeme.io, and trigger automated email sequences when readers subscribe. Setup takes about 15 minutes and works seamlessly.
Q8: Can I switch from one platform to the other later?
Yes. Both support contact imports, so migration is possible. What transfers: your contact list and basic tags. What you’ll need to rebuild: email sequences, templates, automations, and any funnels. Budget 2–4 hours depending on complexity. You’re not locked in, but choosing the right platform from the start avoids that work entirely.
Q9: How much could I earn from Systeme.io’s affiliate program?
The program pays a 50% recurring commission; every month a referred customer pays their subscription, you earn 50% of it for life.
Conservative scenario with 3 years of consistent promotion:
- 50 referrals → 20 upgrade to $27/month Startup plan
- 50% commission = $13.50 per person per month
- $270/month recurring — $9,720 over 3 years
I know this figure from painful personal experience. I procrastinated on this for years and missed exactly this kind of income. Some affiliates earn $1,000–$5,000+ per month. The variable is consistency. Start early. Promote regularly. Let it compound.
Q10: Final answer — which one for a beginner blogger?
There’s no single right answer, but here’s the honest framework:
Choose Systeme.io if you want the most generous free tier (2,000 contacts, unlimited sends), you’re planning to build funnels or courses, and you want everything in one place as you grow.
Choose MailerLite if you want the easiest starting experience, beautiful email design, native digital product, paid newsletter features, and 24/7 support, and you’re okay working within the 500-subscriber free limit while you get started.
Both are genuinely good platforms. I’d recommend either to a beginner blogger, depending on their specific goals. My personal choice is Systeme.io because I think long-term, want everything in one place, and am building toward courses and products. But that’s my context. Yours might be different.

AFFILIATE DISCLOSURE:
Full disclosure: I use Systeme.io for TheIncomePlug and promote it as an affiliate (50% recurring commission, best in the industry!). I have used Systeme.io for YEARS on multiple projects. I joined the affiliate program years ago but procrastinated on promoting it, which is my biggest regret, as I missed out on over $10,000 in recurring income. I have NOT used MailerLite personally, but have researched it extensively. This comparison is based on real Systeme.io experience plus thorough MailerLite research to help you choose based on YOUR needs. Both are genuinely excellent platforms.
Conclusion: The Platform Matters Less Than Your Consistency
Here’s what I know after years of using Systeme.io and extensive research on Mailerlite:
Both free plans are genuinely good. Updated, side by side:
Systeme.io FREE: 2,000 contacts, unlimited sends, 3 funnels, 1 course, unlimited landing pages, affiliate management, and the most feature-rich free plan for bloggers building a full online business.
MailerLite FREE: 500 contacts, 12,000 sends/month, beautiful templates, AI editor, digital products, paid newsletter subscriptions, appointment booking, 24/7 support, and a simpler, increasingly capable platform that’s expanding meaningfully beyond email.
Neither is trying to trap you. Both are betting that if they serve you well from day one, you’ll grow with them.
I chose Systeme.io because I’m building beyond email funnels, courses, products, all in one place, at $0 to start. And yes, I’m finally promoting it as an affiliate after years of procrastination. I cover how to approach email marketing for affiliate income properly if you want to avoid repeating my mistakes.
But I would never tell you Mailerlite is the wrong choice. For a blogger who wants beautiful emails, a smooth starting experience, and the ability to sell digital products or run a paid newsletter, Mailerlite does all of that well. Some of you will read this post and choose Mailerlite. That’s not a mistake. That’s you knowing what you need.
My final advice: pick the platform that fits your actual goals right now. Not the one with the longest feature list. Not the one I use. The one that genuinely matches where you are and where you’re going.
The free plan is your starting point, not your ceiling. Both platforms make money when you upgrade, which happens when you’re making money too. That alignment is healthy. You don’t upgrade out of obligation; you upgrade because your blog has grown to where $27 or $10 a month is obvious. Start free. Build consistently. When the upgrade moment comes, and it will, your blog will already be covering it.
Choose one. Start building. Stay consistent. That’s the whole strategy.
And please don’t procrastinate like I did. 🚀
